I was really homesick for scenes like that when I was in California. Heck, part of the reason I loved "Napoleon Dynamite" so much was because of the flat landscapes (disregarding the mountains in the backgroud) and green wide-open spaces that reminded me of home.
Oh, man, that was one the things I missed most when we lived in Colorado, too. Occasionally, we'd get a huge storm build-up like that, but it never came to anything. We were too close to the mountains, and so it used to blow right by us and then pour down rain out on the plains. It was always disappointing.
Apparently we're just all hopelessly Midwestern kids.

Yeah, but do you miss the oppressive humidity?
;)
The humidity here in Connecticut is so much more oppressive than what I remember from Oklahoma.
One day we saw a flock of geese flying low to the ground and our first thought was that it was the humidity causing them to do that.
It's so humid here that it pushes the birds out of the sky.
